Funded by Fondazione Cariplo and coordinated by the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, the project analyses inequalities in antenatal care in Lombardy. It assesses the contribution of the Midwifery-Led Model of Care (MLMC) to promoting equitable access to services and improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. Adopting an integrated approach that combines quantitative analysis, qualitative research, and co-design with healthcare professionals, institutions, and women, the project aims to develop evidence-based recommendations that will inform the development of health policies and care models.

The Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering at Politecnico di Milano is coordinating the project's quantitative analysis of health data and profiling of service pathways using advanced statistical models. The aim is to identify the determinants of inequalities and the factors associated with maternal and neonatal outcomes. The department is also leading the co-design of evidence-based recommendations to support health policies and services. This involves researchers, healthcare professionals, public decision-makers, and representatives of civil society, with the aim of promoting more equitable, inclusive, and effective care models.
