Assessing sustainability for the future of nuclear energy

Assessing the sustainability of existing nuclear technologies is closely linked to the future of nuclear energy at a societal level.

The EU-funded ECOSENS project will develop a new model, based on the supply system approach, to generate and calculate indicators relevant to consumers, governments and suppliers.

The project will examine the adoption of recommendations related to stakeholder engagement from a socio-ethical perspective. It will cut across disciplines in nuclear research and decision making and make recommendations to address the challenges.

ECOSENS will examine citizens' views and risk perceptions, as well as the benefits and potential of new and existing nuclear technologies in relation to societal challenges such as the climate crisis, sustainable energy policies and energy security.

The project will also consider the whole life cycle of nuclear investments.
