SCINTILLE: the podcast showcasing open social innovation through the PRIN project

A journey into open social innovation with SCINTILLE, the podcast produced by the OSIxItaly academic team. Through the stories of the protagonists of the PRIN project, the programme explores how multi-stakeholder collaboration and the role of the public sector can generate lasting social impact.

SCINTILLE - Voci e Storie di Innovazione a Impatto Sociale (Voices and Stories of Innovation with Social Impact) is a podcast created by the academic team OSIxItaly, Open Social Innovation for Italy, born from the collective will of the Universities of Milano Bicocca, Politecnico di Milano, Luiss and Università degli Studi di Bergamo to propose a new model of Open Social Innovation.

Scintille is a place of stories of light for their ability to illuminate the panorama of social entrepreneurship through the spark of an idea, a vision or a dream to be shared.

The stories we will be telling are part of the PRIN (Projects of Significant National Interest) project, 'Open Social Innovation for a Next Generation of Public Governance', funded by the Ministry of Universities and Research.

PRIN Project: Open Social Innovation for a Next Generation of Public Governance

The PRIN project aims to explore the conditions that can foster the development of a new generation of public governance capable of effectively engaging in multi-stakeholder collaborative processes to generate social impact.

The idea behind this research is to promote a model of public governance based on open social innovation, in which the public sector becomes a key actor in facilitating the co-creation of solutions to society's most pressing challenges. The project is structured around three key questions:

1. What are the main components of Open Social Innovation and how can they be translated into a new model of territorial public governance? (co-definition);

2. What are the enabling factors that make it possible to sustain an open social innovation ecosystem? (experimentation);

3. How can open social innovation be institutionalised as a new public governance framework? (development and institutionalisation).

The stories and narratives of the case study protagonists will unfold through the four key dimensions of PRIN: the role of the public actor, entrepreneurship, finance and social impact. These aspects will be interwoven with as many emotional themes: the spark, the moment that started the innovation process; the connections, the value of multi-actor involvement; the sliding doors, the turning point that changed the destiny of the project; and the legacy, the legacy left behind and the value generated over time.

The protagonists of this episode are the heads of the academic units that participated in the PRIN: Professor Alessandro Sancino as team coordinator for the Università Milano Bicocca, Professor Maria Isabella Leone for the Luiss University, Professor Irene Bengo for the Politecnico di Milano, Professor Maria Rosa Giovanna Scarlata for the Università degli Studi di Bergamo.

The podcast is directed, written and post-produced by Cinzia Petito, professional journalist and researcher at the Università Milano Bicocca.
