The University enters the top 200 for the first time

For the first time, Politecnico di Milano has entered the top 200 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings . In the 2027 edition, the University ranks 157th out of 2,297 universities included in the rankings, having been placed in the 201-250 band for the previous three years.

"This result marks a significant step forward in an increasingly competitive international landscape. The growth is driven primarily by indicators relating to the research environment and teaching, alongside improvements in internationalisation."

Donatella Sciuto, Rector of the Politecnico di Milano

Rankings are not an end in themselves, but a tool: they help us showcase the quality of the Politecnico to the world and compete to attract the best international talent. Entering the top 200 universities for the first time is therefore a significant achievement, particularly as it stems from the work of our entire community: professors, researchers, technical and administrative staff, and students. It is the quality of the research and education we provide that determines our international reputation, not the other way round. And it is in this quality that we will continue to invest.

The most significant improvement relates to the Research Environment, the indicator that assesses reputation, productivity and research income: the Politecnico has risen from 126th to 95th place worldwide, an increase of 7.6 points.

The Teaching category has also improved, rising from 200th to 140th place, thanks in particular to an improvement in academic reputation and indicators relating to doctoral education. The International Outlook category has risen from 503rd to 457th place, driven mainly by growth in the proportion of international staff.

Politecnico di Milano has also reaffirmed its links with industry and its ability to transfer knowledge and innovation into practice: in the Industry category, the University achieved a score of 97.7 out of 100.
